Auslan To Go is a mobile dictionary based on the printed book; The Auslan Dictionary for Teachers, Parents and Professionals : 2012 Edition.

It includes over 2000 unique signs, each clearly illustrated in line art.

The dictionary is presented in Alphabetical order under the main English word for each sign. It includes description of how to perform each sign and is still the only dictionary to include context usage information (e.g. ‘can’ has 2 listings. 1 for ”I can” and the other refers to the ring pull can); to help ensure users clearly understand the context under which it is appropriate to use a sign.

Auslan To Go – Final stages

We’ve tested Auslan To Go over the past month, and are very happy with the transition from iOS 5 to 6. We’ve optimised the application to take advantage of the new iPhone 5’s larger screen and more advanced processor, and we are excitedly looking forward to a December 2012 release date.

Auslan To Go

Deadlines come and go, and our Auslan To Go mobile Australian Sign Language Dictionary is only just around the corner. With the release of iOS 6 we thought it was wise to restrain ourselves and ensure that the App looks just as pretty on an iPhone 5 as it does on an iPhone 3s/4/4s.

We are really looking forward to sharing it with you.

AusSign – Images received, nearing completion

We are very pleased to post that Ology Interactive recently received a few gigabytes of images from Bilby Publishing. The gorgeous images, and a accompanying database is now being integrated within the AusSign platform.

We are now aiming for our first app to be submitted to Apple in July.

AusSign is a software platform for use with large scale pictographic dictionaries. Ology’s recent agreements with Bilby Publishing gives us the rights to one of the most respectable Australian Sign Language Dictionaries currently in print. The platform may be tailored to meet the regional requirements of different languages, and Bilby’s dictionary of Australian sign language will be the first AusSign-supported dictionary to be released.

We look forward to our first product release and we hope, in colaboration with Bilby Publishing, to provide dictionaries for other languages in due time.

Ever written an EULA?

Have you ever written and End User Licensing Agreement (EULA)? Ology Interactive is now in the throws of doing just that and we wonder; what ever happened to the old adage that “simpler is better”.

Our team has a variety of experiences in executing different types of contracts in providing our services, and to a large extent our individual experiences are shared. But we’ve also had the privilege of close quarters contact with lawyers who love to think of everything.

One such experience involved a tight deadline to get a contract together which would allow us to give work out to a company for the full design and development of some critical infrastructure. Fortunately we had access to an amazing law firm which does exactly that, and to our surprise, the full contract arrived a week later, we were walked through it step by step, and the critical decision making was left to us, having been fully informed of the risks.

Now that would have been a 10 out of 10 experience for us, but for the fact that the contract was nearly 60 pages long! We were comfortable every aspect of the possible future was covered, but really, what kind of message do you send someone when you say “we wan’t you to work for us, oh and by the way, here’s a massive contract we expect you to agree to”?

Ultimately we hope simplicity is better, and so with that in mind we return to the task expecting just that.

What’s the largest number of paragraphs you’ve ever read into an EULA?

AusSign nears Beta

We have been working hard to integrate automatic updating into our AusSign platform and the results have been fantastic.

We’ve also spent some time optimizing our algorithms allowing us to deliver a sorted and categorised multi-thousand-item long list to the iphone in mere milliseconds. This is an amazing development in iphone data storage and handling. Further advancements being made in our smart search algorithm and real-time results filtering just add to a solid user experience.

Conversations with our data providers has proven fruitful of late. With access to a new and exhaustive dictionary of 2000+ images, we are nearly ready to go into Beta testing and are still aiming for a release to market in Q2 2012.

Finally, we’d like to thank all those who have submitted proposals for graphic services. Unfortunately, due to the number of submissions we haven’t been able to respond individually to all, however the quality of submissions was impressive, and we look forward to retaining applicants details for future opportunities.

First iPhone App on the horizon.

We’re hoping for some positive discussions around licensing, then Ology Interactive’s first iPhone app will be ready for Apple scrutiny. With luck, we could have our product in store by Q2!

Watch this space!
