Have you ever written and End User Licensing Agreement (EULA)? Ology Interactive is now in the throws of doing just that and we wonder; what ever happened to the old adage that “simpler is better”.
Our team has a variety of experiences in executing different types of contracts in providing our services, and to a large extent our individual experiences are shared. But we’ve also had the privilege of close quarters contact with lawyers who love to think of everything.
One such experience involved a tight deadline to get a contract together which would allow us to give work out to a company for the full design and development of some critical infrastructure. Fortunately we had access to an amazing law firm which does exactly that, and to our surprise, the full contract arrived a week later, we were walked through it step by step, and the critical decision making was left to us, having been fully informed of the risks.
Now that would have been a 10 out of 10 experience for us, but for the fact that the contract was nearly 60 pages long! We were comfortable every aspect of the possible future was covered, but really, what kind of message do you send someone when you say “we wan’t you to work for us, oh and by the way, here’s a massive contract we expect you to agree to”?
Ultimately we hope simplicity is better, and so with that in mind we return to the task expecting just that.
What’s the largest number of paragraphs you’ve ever read into an EULA?
